BACKGROUND AND SCOPE
The Fifth International Conference on Multinational Joint Ventures for Construction Works aims to promote research and development and to provide an international platform for practitioners and researchers to discuss various subjects in the area of multinational joint ventures.
The global economic crisis facing the construction industries of all advanced and developing nations provides the backdrop to this years’ Conference. The focus will be on how joint venture strategies in the construction industry can help firms develop their businesses in an extremely volatile, competitive, and risky economic environment. As domestic markets shrink, construction businesses attempt to seek opportunities abroad. Appropriate and effective approaches to joint ventures become even more imperative. The Fifth International Conference on Joint Ventures will build on the work of the previous sessions but with an urgent agenda, given the critical nature of the world economy and extremely high risk nature of international business.
This year’s event also incorporates the inaugural ‘Construction in the Muslim World Conference.’ The key aim of this Conference is to draw attention to the importance of construction in developing Muslim economies especially in the context of promoting and sustaining socio-economic growth and development;

OBJECTIVES
Key objectives of the conference are:
• To explore recent theoretical advances in management for JV construction projects and business
• To discuss new concepts and paradigms in JV schemes in a high risk economic climate
• To explore policies aiming at recovery from global economic meltdown
• To create awareness on the importance of construction to the Muslim economies

LANGUAGE
The official language of the conference is English.
CALL FOR EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
Authors are invited to submit abstracts, relating to the conference themes. The abstract should be written in English (in MS word format only)
All abstracts should be structured as follows:
• Title: The title should be short, preferably less than 15 words.
• Author(s): Provide contact details for the authors including names, surnames, organization/company, phone/fax no., e-mail and full postal address.
• Keywords: Provide up to 5 keywords.
• Background: Short summary of relevant background and problem addressed.
• Objectives: Define the “tangible and measurable” objectives of the work presented in the paper.
• Methodology: Describe briefly the methodology that you are using or have used to achieve your objectives.
• Results: Provide a short summary of the results.

June 15th, 2009 Notification of acceptance of abstract
July 30th, 2009 Submission of full papers (guidelines to be advised)
August 30th, 2009 Notification of acceptance of papers with comments
September 15th, 2009 Submission of revised final (camera ready) paper

POSTER SESSIONS
This year there will be an opportunity for academics to opt for either oral or poster presentations. You will be notified following the reviewing process whether your paper has been selected for oral or poster presentation.
For the poster presentation, each presenter will be provided a board on which paper can be taped, tacked, or velcroed. Presenters must be present during the poster session. Poster presentations may include brief narratives, pictures, tables, graphs, photos, and other materials. Presenters will be responsible for their own display materials, handouts, and for setup and removal of their displays.
ORGANISING BODIES
The International Conference on Multinational Joint Ventures for Construction Works series was initiated and hosted by the International Islamic University Malaysia and Kyoto University of Japan in 2005.
Now in its fifth edition and back in Malaysia, the Conference has been able to attract key academic and researchers to meet and discuss issues related to multinational JV for Construction Works on annual basis and has become a much awaited event.
International Islamic University Malaysia (IUM) is a unique university either in Malaysia or on a broader plane of the world. It blends harmoniously modern and professional disciplines with traditional values and moral virtues. Its students originate from more than 90 countries representing nearly all regions of the world.
Kyoto University was founded in 1897, the second university to be established in Japan. Known for its pioneering spirits and academic freedom, the university has produced five Nobel laureates and two Fields medalists.
